How to Properly Pack Dishes For Your Move

July 17th 2015 by: Ashley

When it comes to moving, your dishes are one of the most fragile items in your home.

The number one thing is to use the proper boxes for packing fragile and breakable items. Dish boxes may be purchased at many locations (or in our online store), these specialty boxes are perfect for packing your dishes and ensuring their safety. These boxes are especially good for dishes because they are double-walled to hold the extra weight of your dishes.

Ensure that the boxes are properly secured with tape at the bottom so that they do not fall apart when being lifted. White packing paper is a good alternative to newspaper since you wont have to wash the dishes as opposed to using newspaper. Put a layer of crumpled or rolled up paper in the bottom of the box to cushion the items being placed on top of it.

Always pack the heaviest items at the bottom of the box. The most fragile items should be towards the top of the box. Each item should be wrapped individually. Especially delicate items, like crystal or fine glassware, should be double wrapped. If you hear a clunking noise or contact between items in the box, they need to be wrapped more, there is no such thing as too much paper. When you get to the top of the box, add another layer of crumpled papers as cushioning. You want the box to be firmly packed, that is, any excess room in the box should be filled in with crumpled paper for padding.
