If you are like most people, the thought of having to move the house can be extremely overwhelming and stressful. There are a lot of things that have to be done in a relatively short amount of time, leaving you wondering how you are going to get it all done. Thankfully, there are a few things that you can do to make sure the whole process is as smooth and effortless as possible.
Save money on moving boxes.
Instead of spending a small fortune on moving boxes, you can put your money elsewhere. There are all sorts of places you can go to for free moving boxes. Whether it be your local grocery store, clothing store or online, you will be surprised at just how many boxes you can collect without having to spend a dime out of pocket.
Since you are going through all of your items in the house anyway, you might want to look into downsizing at the same time. If items can be donated, do so. Otherwise, throw out the items that you do not need that are not in salvageable condition. By downsizing before you move, you can make the move less strenuous and help minimize clutter inside of your new home.
Devise a schedule.
Moving is one of the most hectic times in your life. Because of this, you need to devise a schedule to make sure you do not end up leaving anything out. You want to defrost, towel dry and thoroughly clean your fridge out about one to two days prior to moving. Otherwise, you will end up with an extremely stinky and leaky appliance to move. Not only could this ruin the fridge, but it could ruin your other items as well.
Plan ahead for other things as well, such as when to contact the utility companies, when to forward your mail and so on. You do not want to leave any of the details to chance or you could end up with a bunch of things being left undone.
Take pictures of all your electronics before unplugging them.
Before going through and unplugging all of your electronics, consider taking a picture of how you have everything hooked up and where you had it all placed. This way you do not have to spend a lot of time trying to figure out where everything was put and how it was hooked up. Not only will it save you a lot of stress, but it will definitely cut down on the amount of time it is going to take to hook everything up again in your new place.
Keep hanging clothes hanging.
Oftentimes, people end up spending a ton of time taking everything out of their closet and folding it all up so it can be transported to their new home. Why not save yourself a lot of time and effort and invest in wardrobe boxes? These boxes allow you to take all of your hanging clothes out of the closet and put them into these boxes. When you arrive at your new home, you simply take them out of the wardrobe box and hang them in your new closet. Instead of spending hours on the process, you will only spend a few minutes.
Make yourself a first night box.
House moving can take a lot out of you. The last thing you want to do when you get to your new place is to spend time going through everything and unpacking. One of the best things you can do to get around the situation is to make yourself a first night box. Include all of your basic essentials, such as your toiletries, clothing, a few dishes and so on. Pack anything and everything you need to make it through that first night.
Most people never think about doing this and find themselves running around trying to find all of the items they need the next morning. You can save yourself a lot of hassle and stress by planning ahead and packing one of these boxes. Make sure you clearly label it so you can easily identify the box.
By going through and doing the things above, you can make the moving process far simpler and less stressful for everyone involved.
