5 Reasons to Move to Alexandria, VA

December 26th 2016 by: Jim

Nearly eight miles south of the hustle and bustle of our nation’s capital sits the pleasant, historic little town of Alexandria, Virginia. The city is packed full of small town charm, with just a pinch of big-city comforts for all of you DC aficionados. Alexandria’s got a lot - and if you’re considering a move to the Washington, DC Metro area you should ponder the thought of moving to Alexandria.

Why? Check out our top six reasons for loving this beautiful city:

Safety Is a Top Priority

When you move to a big city, you have to consider safety. Does your new neighborhood have a high crime rate? Is this a place where I can raise my family? Part of Alexandria’s charm is it’s safe, walkable neighborhoods. Aside from Old Town, the city center with dining and entertainment, Alexandria has three additional, unique neighborhoods to live, shop, dine, and play. On average, Alexandria has a much lower crime rate than Washington, DC and some of the surrounding metro areas - making it a great alternative to city life!

We Are Dog-Friendly

If you are a pet-lover, Alexandria may be the city for you. Throughout the city, there is so much to do that is dog-friendly - from Doggy Happy Hour at Jackson 20 to the Canine Cruise on the Potomac during the summers. If you’re trying to get your fitness on, you can grab your pup and head over to Frolick Dogs Gym or take a stroll through many of the dog-friendly parks in the area.

Food, Food, & More Food

The city is known for its chef-driven and independently owned eateries, serving the freshest catch at seafood restaurants and a bit of international flair at others. Whether you are looking for lunch on the go or a date night meal, you can find it in Old Town.

Our First President Lived in Alexandria

Another charming aspect of the quaint town of Alexandria is its rich history. With a founding date of July 1749, the town was home to the very first president of the United States, George Washington. Washington’s townhome, which was demolished in 1855, was rebuilt in 1960 and can be found on Cameron Street in Old Town. In addition, Alexandria is home to many museums and historic buildings, including the George Washington Masonic National Memorial.

We’re in Close Proximity to Washington, DC

If you want to live in DC, but you don’t want to live in DC - choose Alexandria! The city is close enough to the nation’s capital that you can see the Washington Monument over the Potomac, but you can enjoy the stress-free lifestyle of a smaller town. Also, we’re only a short ride on the MetroRail from the city!
